FEATURES OF THE AREA
Málaga is the capital city of the Costa del Sol and it is one of the main tourist destinations in Spain. It has a privileged climate all year round and therefore it is the best choice for enjoying its long beaches, where there is something for everybody. The city complements the sun and beach factor with a large number of monuments, parks, gardens, museums, streets, plazas and corners full of history which contrast with a modern and state-of-the-art city.
Apartment San Francisco Standard is a 5 minute walk from Plaza de la Merced. We recommend visiting Picasso’s Birthplace, which offers a recreation of Picasso’s childhood, his relationship with his wife, his origins and his birthplace. If you like the theatre, 350 metres away you will find the Cervantes Theatre, where you can enjoy a play or a concert as well as trying local food at any of the terraces that surround it. With regard to gastronomy, here are some of our suggestions: wholesale food market Atarazanas, for tapas and fresh seasonal produce; The Refectorium, near to the Cathedral and renowned for its signature cuisine dishes; tavern El Pimpi, opposite the Roman Theatre, an emblematic place and meeting point for locals and visitors where you can have some tapas and local wines.
The stage where all of the most important celebrations in the city of Málaga take place is Calle Larios. This street was inaugurated on the 27th August 1891 and owes its name to Manuel Domingo Larios y Larios, II Marquis of Larios, promoter of the development of the textile industry in the city during the nineteenth century. Calle Larios is the fifth most expensive commercial street in Spain. Calle Larios reaches from La Alameda Principal to Plaza de la Constitución, starting point of the street maze that makes up the historical centre of the city of Málaga. This is the best way to discover the city centre and enjoy our wonderful city and its people.
This meeting point and stage for celebrations is adorned for each occasion and it receives all visitors at all times of the year: Easter, Carnivals, the Cinema Festival of Málaga, the August Fair and Christmas – the lights at Christmastime are spectacular. Each and every one of these celebrations is a reflection of the customs and traditions of this fabulous city. You must pay it a visit and come and see for yourself.
