Apartament holidays rentals Premium Deluxe El Marqués (Málaga)

El Marqués is a spectacular and luxurious apartment, located only a few steps from the Cathedral of Málaga. It is situated on one of the most historic streets of the city, Calle Cister. It is also one of the most enjoyed streets and is the gateway to Málaga for those arriving from Málaga Park (450 meters away), from the Town hall (300 meters away) and  from La Malagueta beach as well as the dock 1 area (Mueller Uno) which can be walked within 10-15 minutes. One of the best tapas bars (Uvedoble) is just outside the main entrance door when you leave the apartment to explore Málaga.

If we carry on towards the Cathedral, there is a cul de sac, Calle Afligidos, where Pedro de Mena lived, worked and passed away. Here today there is a House-Museum of the sculptor and the headquarters of Museum Revello de Toro.

At the end of the street there is another entrance door to the Cathedral, which is opposite Plaza del Obispo, the urban Baroque site par excellence of the city of Málaga, and one of the most important plazas of the city since antiquity. Here you will find palace Palacio del Obsipo, construction of which commenced in 1762.

Approximately 350 metres from apartment Císter Premium Deluxe is Plaza de la Constitución, the heart of Málaga where four renowned streets lead off, which are: Calle Larios, main commercial street, Calle Granada, Calle Especerías and Calle Compañías, where the Thyssen Museum of Málaga is located.

Another very special site of Málaga are the environs and gardens of the Roman Theatre and the Alcazaba, 200 metres from the apartment. Its privileged surroundings full of so much history, tradition and culture make this city what it truly is: a relic, former Málaga, or Roman city.

Just 500 metres away is Plaza de la Merced, which is one of the main plazas of the city centre, where events and festivals often take place. In this plaza you can find the obelisk in homage to General Torrijos and Picasso’s Birthplace, headquarters of the Picasso Birthplace Foundation.

As with all great Mediterranean cities, Málaga has always been linked to the sea and to the riches that come from it, and it has always filled locals with life. Protected by a natural bay, the Málaga Port, 1 kilometre from apartment Císter Premium Deluxe, has become the second most popular port amongst cruise liners in the peninsula and it frequently receives visits from the most important ships in the world.

This apartment is very well connected as there are several taxi ranks along the street where it is located, as well as the bus stops along La Alameda Principal (Main Boulevard), just 700 metres away. The airport is just a 20 minute drive away.

FEATURES OF THE AREA

We have attempted to fine tune the most interesting things to do when staying at apartment Premium Deluxe El Marqués to enjoy Málaga, a city which has changed its appearance and amazes with everything that its historical centre has to offer.
Firstly, right next to the building where the apartment in located, there is a renowned restaurant called Uvedoble.
If you stay at apartment Císter Premium Deluxe, which is opposite the Cathedral, you must not forget to visit the Cathedral and its museum. The south tower and the main façade are unfinished, reason why the locals call it one-armed (La Manquita). It has two entrances, one via Calle Císter and the other via Plaza del Obispo, which is the main entrance. Plaza del Obispo is a plaza full of charm from where you can admire the magnificence and architectural detail of the Cathedral whilst having a tapa or a coffee local-style (mitad, nube, corto, largo…). This plaza also houses the Episcopal Palace, which is also available to visit.
Taking a walk along Calle Larios, main commercial street of Málaga par excellence, to do some shopping, have a home-made ice-cream at Casa Mira, and stop at Plaza de la Constitución for lunch along Pasaje de Chinitas, is a very pleasant experience which will also enable you to enjoy the architecture of the buildings that make up the historical centre.
The Alcazaba is the jewel in the crown of the city of Málaga. This expression in this context is not exactly the most appropriate as its owners did not particularly get on well with the “crown” of Castile. It was the fortress palace of the Muslim rulers who dominated this territory and was built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries. It was built on top of the remains of a Phoenician edification, using theatre elements and other Roman constructions. Therefore if you spot anything that does not fit in with the Muslim world, now you know why! The orange trees and flowers provide it with a fabulous splash of colour.
You cannot leave Málaga without having some tapas in the most famous tavern of the city, El Pimpi, located right opposite the Roman Theatre. Many famous people have been here (Picasso, Carmen Thyssen, Antonio Banderas, and more…). Proof of this is on one of the walls.
We also recommend trying some skewered fish (espeto), traditional local dish which consists in skewering fish, normally sardines, on thin long canes to then slowly cook them using firewood in the sand on the beach.
The culture, traditions, gastronomy, enviable climate and the hospitality of the people all contribute to consolidate the image of “the paradise city”, name used by renowned Spanish poet Vicente Aleixandre, Nobel Prize winner of poetry and literature, when referring to the city of Málaga. Come along and enjoy!
