Founded by the Phoenicians, Fuengirola has been home to the Romans, Byzantines, Visigoths and Moors amongst others, until its definitive incorporable to the Crown of Castile in 1485. It is currently known as Villa Blanca, a city of large buildings that contrast with the fishing town of Santa Fe of Los Boliches, with whitewashed houses. It is an important tourist centre that has around 250,000 inhabitants during the summer months and whose economy revolves around this sector.
The climate is Mediterranean Subtropical, with average yearly temperatures of 18 ºC, annual precipitations of 500l/m2 and around 3,000 hours of sun per year. Summers are hot, temperatures can sometimes exceed 35 ºC, whilst winters are generally mild. Its main attraction is the sea.
It is an excellent place to stay and from here you can visit other places which you may find more interesting than the actual city, such as visit the nearby village of Mijas, as well as the city of Málaga, and other corners along the Costa del Sol and close by.
